Foetry: American Poetry Watchdog
Exposing the fraudulent "contests."
Tracking the sycophants.
Naming names.
The Ohio State University Press/The Journal Award in Poetry :
- charges a handling fee of $25.00 (includes a one-year subscription to The Journal)
- prize is $2000 plus publication
- many recent awards were to poets with an Ohio connection
- several are connected to the Iowa Writers' Workshop
- Although Kathy Fagan never put forward the manuscript of a friend during pre-screening and final judge David Citino never awarded publication to any friends, Fagan says, "I CANNOT SPEAK FOR MY STUDENTS OR COLLEAGUES, THOUGH I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT IF THERE ARE CONNECTIONS, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THEM."
Foetry encourages a change in the unknown screening process to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest.
