• has selected former student, James Kimbrell as the winner in a contest sponsored by Sarabande Books.
• He also selected a manuscript written by Tom Andrews, who edited the book, The Point Where All Things Meet: Essays on Charles Wright for the Iowa Poetry Prize. Back in 1989, Andrews won the National Poetry Series for a different book, also selected by his mentor, Charles Wright.
• Selected his student, Sherod Santos, as winner of the National Poetry Series.
